Air Force spokesman said that an aircraft used for training Air Force pilots had lost contact with the cockpit.
The aircraft has departed from China Bay Air Force Base, Trincomalee for training pilots at the Pilot Training Institute. At around 1.55 pm, the cockpit had lost contact with the aircraft
The missing plane has crashed near the Janaranjana Wewa in Suriyapura, Kantale, police said. The aircraft is a small PT 6 aircraft.
The Air Force said that only the pilot was on board the plane when it crashed.
