Amendment to quarantine period: Health Ministry decision likely tomorrow

The Ministry of Health is set to review the quarantine period enforced for Sri Lankans returning from overseas.

Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said the Health Ministry committee will forward their recommendations to the Director-General of Health Services tomorrow (12).

He added that a decision with regard to reducing the quarantine period for returnees from overseas will be taken tomorrow.

Dr Hemantha Herath further said that the decision will be taken after considering the report submitted by the Health Ministry Committee.

The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) announced yesterday that a decision has been taken to reduce the mandatory quarantine process from 28- 14 days for Sri Lankans who return from overseas.

Head of the Centre Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said under the new system, a Sri Lankan arriving from overseas will be required to undergo the mandatory 14-days quarantine process at the end of which a PCR tests will be conducted.

The Army Commander further said that if the individual has tested negative, then he will not require to undergo home-quarantine for another 14- days as previously practiced.
