Inventor Kelum Wadasinghe has developed a device which he claims destroys the coronavirus on banknotes and other surfaces within three minutes by using heat.
The device named ‘Heat Cabin’ can be used on banknotes, documents, masks, and stainless surfaces to destroy COVID-19, Wadasinghe said.
When people present money at a bank or shop, cashiers usually ask that the money be kept on a tray for counting after being sanitized. Seeing this prompted Wadasinghe to develop the ‘Heat Cabin’ device. He says he has spent about Rs. 20,000 on developing the product.
“I studied the nature of the Coronavirus as explained on websites. The Healthline site stated that about 70 degrees Celsius is effective in destroying the virus,” he said.

“The BBC also reported COVID-19 could remain infectious on the surface of banknotes, mobile phone screens, and stainless-steel for up to 28 days. So I planned to develop an apparatus.”
When objects that need disinfection are inserted into the device and the start button is pressed, the temperature of the device increases to 90 degrees Celsius.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coronavirus can be destroyed at 56-70 degree Celsius.
“This device could be used by banks, businesses, offices, or even personal use,” Wadasinghe said.
However, the ‘Heat Cabin’ is not recommended for electronic devices like mobile phones, wristwatches, calculators,
