Former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and former Director-General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Anusha Pelpita who were acquitted from the case of using state funds to distribute material for ‘Sil Clothing’ said the judgment was victory for the public sector employees.
They were commenting after the verdict on their appeal was delivered by Court of Appeal Justices Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Devika Abeyratne today (19).
Mr Weeratunga and Mr Pelpita were given a 3-years RI term and fined Rs. 5 million after they were found guilty for misappropriation of Rs 650 million of state funds to distribute ‘Sil cloths’ to people before the Presidential elections in 2015.
